North Austin is located roughly 8 miles west of downtown Chicago and is home to over 117,000 residents living in Austin apts. It is bordered to the west and south by the towns of Oak Park and Cicero and to the east and north by the Chicago neighborhoods of Belmont-Cragin, Hermosa and Humboldt Park. A number of green areas are available to residents, including Levin Park, Austin Town Hall Park (built around the old Cicero Town Hall), Kinzie Parkway Park and Austin Park.

History

The area of North Austin was first founded by businessman Henry W. Austin in 1865, when he purchased a large tract of land, originally called Holden Park. In these early days, the neighborhood was part of Cicero Township and, in fact, the town of Cicero moved its town hall to the area (located at present-day Austin Town Hall Park) in 1870. In 1898, residents living in (now) North Austin apartments voted for the neighborhood to be annexed by nearby Chicago.
These days, the neighborhood is a melting pot of cultures and draws influence from both northwest Chicago and the towns it borders. The area is filled with affordable apartments and quality housing. Local housing options can fit any budget, whether you're looking for apts under 600 dollars, apartments under 800 dollars or apartments under 1000 dollars.
