Chicago welcomes the world’s greatest Marathon runners

When mid-October rolls around, you can count on a few things: chillier temperatures, falling leaves and thousands of elite runners visiting Chicago for one of the world’s premier sporting events.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon hit the streets again yesterday, with thousands of runners participating from all 50 states and over 100 countries around the world. And while there could only be one winner, all participants walked away from the event with a sense of accomplishment and the memory of a breathtaking view of one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

Since 1977, the Chicago marathon has been a staple of the running world. With separate events for men’s, women’s and wheel chair races, the day-long event is open to all levels and class of runners. The 27-mile party at the end of the event was a chance for runners and their families to celebrate what is often a long and difficult training year and appreciate the hospitality and beauty of autumn in Chicago.
