As the summer draws to a close, it’s a great idea to spend a little time digging through your apartment and cutting down on all the clutter. But how do you know what’s really important to keep and what you should toss? Here we give you five must-ask questions that will help you decide:
- When was the last time I used this?
If it’s been months since you’ve actually worn an item of clothing or used a household appliance, chances are you don’t really need it.
- Does it have more than one use?
Apartment living means that space is at a premium. You need to hold on to items that serve more than a single purpose, such as nesting boxes that reduce clutter when not in use.
- How much is it worth to me now?
Sometimes you end up holding onto junk just because you paid money for it years ago. The question of worth is really about what it matters to you now, not when you bought it.
- Will I ever finish this project?
We all have those pet projects that just never seem to end. If you’ve started a project more than a month ago, the chances are that you’ll never get around to finishing it. Toss it out and use the space for daily needs.
- Do I like it?
It seems like a stupid question, but really it’s the most important. Whether clothing, kitchen utensils or furniture, if you simply don’t like it, just toss it and make room for those things that really matter most.
