Vacations should be fun and exciting. However, it is best not to leave your place alone for longer than a few days. If your home becomes too noticeably quiet, it may be a target for burglary. Instead of leaving your home unattended, here are some alternatives to avoid coming back to a stressful situation.

House-sitter Find someone you trust to stay temporarily in your home. They can move in for the full length of time that you will be gone or just sleepover for a few nights. If you have pets that are not allowed on the trip, this person can care for them. Plus, they can also water your plants or keep an eye out for important mail.

Weekly Check-In You can ask a family member or friend to come check your apartment once in a while. They can check the inside of your home, keep it clean, make sure the doors are locked, and pick up your mail. This person can also reassure you that your place is safely secured.

Neighborhood Watch Talk to your landlord and neighbor. Ask them to keep an eye on your place while you are gone. They can simply check the exterior of your home or even monitor any interior movements. They can report any suspicious behavior around the area, too.

Try out the idea that works best for you. Remember, planning a trip can be stressful, but coming back to a damaged home can be much more stressful.
